Funding cuts to Kentucky higher education were the 10th worst among the states since 2008. The cost of higher education is being shifted from the state to students and their families. Kentucky's community colleges are the most expensive of 16 states in the southeast and is the 11th most expensive in the United States. Parents and children recognize the importance of education in obtaining a decent job. However, they are increasingly aware that their incomes are not keeping pace with the climbing cost of college. Kentucky must do more to make college more affordable for all Kentuckians. Worse, parents and students have taken on debt to meet this daunting challenge at rates unmatched in modern history.
